With an area of 1,285,215 square km, Peru is the third largest country in South America, after Brazil and Argentina. It is considered one of the 20 largest countries.
Peru is also divided into 24 regions/departments, to which we add the Constitutional Province of Callao. Lima is the capital of the country.

Population

With approximately 33 million inhabitants, Peru is known as the country of all bloods due to its rich ethnic mix. Five hundred years ago, the indigenous population joined the Spanish population, and over time was enriched by African, Asian and European migrations, resulting in a diverse and unique nation.

Language

Peru has a great linguistic diversity. Spanish is the main language, followed by Quechua, a legacy of the Inca Empire and still spoken in several regions. In addition, there is Aymara, in Puno, and a wide variety of Amazonian dialects, with 15 linguistic families and 38 different languages.

Currency

The official currency is the Sol (S/), which is divided into 100 cents. In circulation there are coins of 10, 20 and 50 cents, as well as 1, 2 and 5 soles, along with bills of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 soles.

Government

Peru is a democratic republic where the president and congressmen are elected by universal suffrage every 5 years.

Religion

Peru is a secular state that respects freedom of worship. The country is home to a diversity of beliefs, where Catholic traditions coexist with pre-Hispanic customs, reflected in festivals and rituals nationwide.

Geography:

It is divided into three regions, Coast, Highlands and Jungle. Although this is a simple division, it serves as a useful enough portrait of the Peruvian geography, the reality is much more complex because of the total biodiversity of the country. Nature seems to have taken particular characteristics that turned mountains, plains, jungle and valley into unique habitats. Only here you can find a great variety of ecosystems, animals and plants.

MONEDA Y CAMBIO:

Como mencionamos mas arriba, la moneda es el «Sol» (S/). El cambio equivalente para un Dolar Americano seria de aproximadamente S/ 3.45.

IMPUESTO DE HOTEL:

Turistas están exentos de pagar el impuesto del 18% en alojamiento, aquí en Perú. Para dar esta excepción, los hoteles requieren una copia del pasaporte (datos y fecha de entrada) y carta de inmigración.

ELECTRICIDAD:

220 volts. Los principales hoteles tienen enchufes especiales de 110 voltios en los baños.

AGUA:

Aunque el agua del grifo sea potable, sugerimos beber solo agua embotellada. Podrás encontrar agua carbonada y de manantial en casi todos los lugares.

HORA LOCAL:

La hora local peruana coincide con la hora estándar del este de EE. UU. Y está cinco horas por detrás de G.M.T.

TIPS:

El 10% del servicio esta normalmente incluido en los recibos de hoteles o restaurantes. Las propinas adicionales son opcionales y dependen totalmente de la satisfacción del pasajero.

TAXIS:

Se recomienda no usar taxis de la calle, solo los taxis que puedes solicitar en tu hotel o taxis seguros de alguna linea en especifica. Los conductores de Taxi no esperan propinas.

SHOPPING:

Perú es un paraíso para irse de shopping. Desde joyería hasta ropa, cerámica y productos de alpaca. Las tiendas en Lima están usualmente abiertas desde las 10 a.m. hasta las 8 p.m.; fuera de Lima desde las 10 a.m. hasta la 1 p.m. y luego desde las 4 p.m. hasta las 8 p.m.

MEDIDAS DE SEGURIDAD:

Deja tu pasaporte en el hotel junto a tus tickets de vuelo internacional y cosas de valor. La mayoría de hoteles cuentan con una caja fuerte libre de costo o en todo caso a un costo muy bajo. Es recomendable cargar con una copia de tu pasaporte.

Intenta no hacer turismo por tu cuenta, trata de estar acompañado/a.

No lleves joyería de ningún tipo cuando vayas por calle, si llevas un reloj, asegúrate esté bien escondido bajo la manga de tu camisa.

En cuanto a posesión de drogas, la ley Peruana es clara y concisa. Esta prohibido cualquier tipo de posesión, uso y venta de drogas como la marihuana y cocaína.
